Christmas and New Year’s are right around the corner, and with the season come parties, gatherings and dinners. If you’re anything like me, you’re probably already wondering: What can I wear to shine this holiday season without overcomplicating things or spending money on pieces I might never use again?
In the latest episode of The Story Series, I had a beautiful conversation with an incredibly talented woman. She has this warmth, charisma and contagious energy, being around her feels like a hug to the heart. I’m talking about Jessica Cascante, who dedicates her work to reconnecting people with their inner glow, and you can feel that from the very first moment she greets you.
Even though our conversation focused on her professional journey and her life in the world of fashion, plus a few tips to elevate our everyday looks, talking with her made me reflect. It made me think about how we can apply her philosophy now that the holiday season is officially here.
But… who is Jessica Cascante?
In case you haven’t met her yet, let me introduce you to Jessica Cascante. She’s a Costa Rican fashion designer and the founder of The Style Room, an image consulting firm with 15 years of experience. Her approach to style goes far beyond the surface; for her, what we wear is an extension of who we are. She blends visual creativity, communication and fashion to empower individuals, companies and communities.
She has also been involved in initiatives that support women entrepreneurs and help train corporate teams. Everything she does is rooted in authenticity, intention and personal growth.
What struck me the most during our conversation was her beautiful energy. It’s the same energy she uses to lift people up, and her determination fuels the purpose she carries so clearly.
As I listened to Jessi, I kept thinking about how close we are to the holiday season. And even though we all love looking “perfect,” it’s easy to forget that these events are also meant for connecting, resting and coming back to what matters. Still, if we want to shine this holiday season while we share with others, this podcast episode is the perfect place to start.
Simple tips to shine this holiday season (inspired by Jessi’s philosophy)
Start with who you are, not with what’s trending.
When choosing an outfit, for the holidays or everyday life, remember this: anything that comes from your essence will always highlight you more than any passing trend.
Comfort is part of style.
There’s nothing less elegant than an outfit that keeps you from enjoying the moment. So choose something that helps you feel confident and at ease.
A well-styled basic beats an overloaded look.
As Jessi says, you need to know where you’re going. Knowing your basics and how to use them keeps you from wearing half your closet. Less is more, and it shows.
Play with textures and details; you don’t need “more sparkle” to stand out.
Satin, velvet, soft metallics, feathers and yes, even a touch of glitter can elevate your whole look without going overboard.
Think versatility.
If you’re buying something new, make sure you can use it long after December. And if mixing and matching pieces is a challenge for you, run to the episode, Jessi gave us the perfect solution.
Before I wrap up, if you want to learn more about fashion, personal style and choosing pieces with intention, you absolutely need to follow Jessica. You can find her on her website, The Style Room, and on Instagram at @TheStyleRoomCR.
As always,
Be kind, dream big, live fully!
See you soon,
Vanessa
